Kids Free Fishing Clinic

We’d like to thank the community for again supporting our annual kids and family, community event, on a beautiful spring day at Regner Park.  661 kids came to enjoy the outdoors, registered to learn about everything fishy, and of course to fish…with the help of 53 volunteers.

We gave away a free hot dog and fish cracker plate to all the kids aged 15 and under, plus hot chocolate and water.  We also gave each child a nylon backpack filled with a fish lure, tape measure, stickers, fish ID cards, free pizza and ice cream coupons, a coloring book, and a “fish of WI” color brochure….and free raffles each hour of new rods and reels, kids tackle boxes, and t-shirts.

We had one of the “touch of the wild” education trailers there where kids can lightly touch various mounts of animals, birds, and fish.  The kids either brought their own fishing rod and reel or used one our many loaner rods and reels.  We also provided free bait and had many fisher people stationed around the fishing pond to help kids put bait on their hook, cast, set the hook and reel in, and of course fix many tangles.  There were various teaching/learning clinics indoors including how to tie a fly lure, aquatic invasive species of WI., kayak education, microscopes to see what is in the pond water.  A lot of various fish species were caught, thanks to the WI DNR and the City of West Bend parks and rec dept. who planted them…with most fish released.

Getting the kids outdoors to enjoy our parks with family, and find out how much fun fishing can be, is why we do this. Their smiling faces are our reward.

Again, thank you, this event would not have been, without your support.
